Abstract

The rising occurrence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents a major global health issue, prompting the need to investigate alternative therapeutic options. Herbal extracts, sourced from plants with traditional medicinal applications, have attracted interest for their potential antimicrobial effects. This research article examines the antimicrobial properties of specific herbal extracts, such as Ocimum sanctum (Holy Basil), Azadirachta indica (Neem), and Curcuma longa (Turmeric), against common pathogenic bacteria like Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The study evaluates the effectiveness of these extracts through in vitro methods, including disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) tests. The results indicate that herbal extracts could be promising candidates for the development of new antimicrobial agents, providing a sustainable and cost-efficient strategy to address AMR. Additionally, the study explores the phytochemical components responsible for the observed effects and suggests future directions for clinical and pharmacological research.

The research paper investigates the use of herbal extracts as alternative antimicrobial solutions in light of the increasing challenge posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The study examines extracts from Ocimum sanctum (Holy Basil), Azadirachta indica (Neem), and Curcuma longa (Turmeric), assessing their effectiveness against common pathogenic bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The findings revealed notable antimicrobial activity, with different extracts and bacterial strains showing varying degrees of effectiveness.

The research highlights the potential of herbal extracts as promising options for creating new antimicrobial agents to tackle the AMR crisis. It stresses the sustainable and cost-effective nature of this method, which could offer benefits over conventional antibiotic development. These findings emphasize the potential of herbal extracts in fighting AMR and propose directions for future clinical and pharmacological studies to further investigate their therapeutic uses.
